Why Does My Dryer Change Time Itself or Take Too Long to Dry?

Dryers make our life easier and enable us to do multiple loads of laundry in only a day. You can get fully dried clothes within 40 minutes, but what if your unit constantly changes time or leaves the garment wet? What are the reasons for dryer malfunctions and how can I fix them?

Moisture Sensor. This can be calibrated wrongly and send inappropriate data to your main board. It means that the sensor defines your clothes as wet and adds more time to your drying cycle.
Solution: You can fix the issue on your own if you have a multimeter. In other cases, it would be better to call a technician.
Dryer Overload. Experts recommend filling ⅔ of your unit, which allows the hot air to circulate freely. Otherwise, your dryer will run two cycles to dry a large amount of clothes.
Solution: Read the recommendations in your unit manual to find out how to load your dryer properly.
Lint Contamination. Clothes shed fabric fiber with each drying cycle. They are flying inside the drum randomly and can stick to the lint screen. It prevents proper circulation of hot air, which leads to inefficient work of your unit.
Solution: To make your dryer work properly, clean the lint screen after each drying cycle.
Vents Clog. Clogged vents restrict constant airflow, prolong drying the cycle, cause overheating, and can possibly lead to fires.
Solution: Clean the part by disconnecting it from the unit, vacuum it from both ends, remove the exhaust hood and clean it from lint or debris, and reconnect the vent hose to the dryer. Make sure that part doesn’t have any pinches or damages.
Power Source. Gas dryers are more efficient and dry your clothes faster. Electric units require at least a 240V outlet, while average outlets have 120V. This means that it will take more time to dry your garment.
Solution: It is better to stop using an extension cord as it can’t provide the desired amount of power.
